(Get this, during its establishment, the pronunciation of Buena Vista was “Americanized” so now the pronunciation is bU-na, not bwAY-na.)
Welcome back to a day in the life here with mùa. This week we were in Nathrop, a little town on the highway near both Salida and Buena Vista. Although it was hot, we managed to bike both towns.
Salida was cute, and IMO had the better shops and merch. We biked the river walk, which had these sunflowers on the side in a community garden.
For lunch we had burgers (again, I know). (I’ll rate the resturant in another post).
Mom got me a cute sweatshirt as my birthday present, and then we were pretty much done. That was Salida.
The next day though, we had our Buena Vista tour, and I loved it. First off, we parked next to this shop called Sundance, and this store had the most beautiful ukuleles I have ever seen. They were made of native Colorado wood (Aspen, Beetle-kill pine, koa) and hand-carved by a local. Holding them made me feel like a new person (jk). If only I had a thousand bucks lol.

(Speaking of ukes, I’ve been learning some new songs and I was wondering if y’all would like to see me play some. Let me know in the chat or comments.)
After our little adventure we went to a coffee shop and got some pastries.
Raspberry scone dipped in hot chocolate? Yes please. Although I can’t think of anything not good that’s chocolate dipped.
We biked around the mainstreet for a bit, and we found my favorite bookstore so far.
Unfortunately I’ve been finding that a lot of bookstores are very work and often the first books you see are ones that preach at you (pick a topic). Personally, I don’t want to read some guilt trip/identity politics book that makes me feel guilty or bitter.
This store though, was like my dream. No preaching, nothing woke, just the fantasy/classic books that I love, and geeky merch just the way I like it.
For dinner we ate at Wesley & Rose, a quaint restaurant with a very nice menu I must say.
I got that pizza for eight bucks FYI.
And that was Buena Vista, Salida, and my new favorite uke! Thank you for reading and I hope to see you next time.
Love,
-R.D.
